Kaupthing Bank Largest Taxpayer in Iceland

Kaupthing Bank paid the most in taxes for the previous year of any legal entity in Iceland with a payment of ISK 7 billion. This is single largest tax payment ever made in Iceland, and the first time that a corporation has actually paid more in taxes than the Icelandic Financial Management Authority.
Hreidar Már Sigurdsson, CEO of Kaupthing Bank, comments: “We are satisfied and really quite proud of this accomplishment, of how much we are able to give back to the community. These tax payments represent the same amount the state spends to fund the University of Iceland. This also serves as a clear indication that the state and the nation as a whole continuously benefit from the operation of financial businesses. And it can be expected that these tax payments will only be higher in the coming year.”
